India Carbon Outlook, India's First Carbon Focused Information Marketplace, Launched at Clinton Global Initiative 5th Annual Meeting

Posted on: Friday, 25 September 2009, 18:23 CDT

NEW YORK, Sept. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- cKinetics today announced the launch of India Carbon Outlook, as part of their impact commitment at the 5th Annual meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI). India Carbon Outlook is an independent information marketplace which leverages a data driven approach to track actions and impact related to the carbon footprint.

The most recent projections have India's per-capita carbon footprint increasing from 1.3 tons currently to about 3.5 tons in 2030. This is an outcome of the investment required in infrastructure and services to support the country's growth programs. India's recent decision to voluntarily move towards a low carbon future necessitates a forum to provide the information and leadership to facilitate a successful outcome on this front. India Carbon Outlook's goal is to track activities as India moves towards developing as a low carbon economy.

India Carbon Outlook is the only platform with an exclusive focus on carbon-professionals in India, providing them with up-to-date data, news and views to keep track of industry developments. It is aimed as a one-stop information resource to promote a low carbon future by providing a comprehensive insight into the various low carbon interventions to enable collaborative dialog on the 'growth paradox' and catalyze sustained action and decisions by local, regional as well as global practitioners.

Announcing the launch, Pawan Mehra and Upendra Bhatt, Co-Founders of cKinetics stated, "We are very excited with the response India Carbon Outlook has received by various members at CGI. There has been a wide felt need for providing country level information across the spectrum of field-level interventions. Clearly this effort requires a sustained collaboration and engagement from all the industry participants and we strongly encourage and welcome various industry participants to actively participate to make this a truly collaborative industry-wide effort".

India Carbon Outlook has been designed to address the information and transparency needs at the policy and market level by identifying, tracking and highlighting market interventions thus catalyzing the mainstreaming of the low carbon emission initiatives.

India Carbon Outlook is also putting together a working group to build the taxonomy for Carbon XBRL and also to build a linked-data repository of URIs being used for carbon-terminology. As data on carbon related activities increase, standardizing URIs and XBRL will make portability easier: allowing for easier data comparisons and indepth analysis to enable carbon and forest professionals.
