Douglas E. Himberger to Lead NORC Research on Security, Energy, and the Environment

WASHINGTON, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Opinion Research Center (NORC) at the University of Chicago announced today that Dr. Douglas E. Himberger will lead its new research department on security, energy, and the environment. As Senior Vice President and Director of the new group, Himberger will develop new business in the area of security and will expand the organization's current portfolio of work in the areas of energy and the environment.

Himberger joins NORC from Booz Allen Hamilton, where he was a Vice President and Partner with an impressive track record of working with the federal government in a variety of areas, including Homeland Security (HLS) and Homeland Defense (HLD). In this role, he addressed survivability and vulnerability, as well as information and infrastructure assurance for HLS and HLD, and enterprise resilience and assurance efforts across a wide range of Government and commercial clients. He was a leader in the firm's security team, supporting key clients including the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Office of Health Affairs (OHA), the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), and various law enforcement and counter-terrorism agencies. He also led the firm's Global Risks Initiative Task Force, as well as the Pandemic Task Force, supporting Government and industry in preparedness, resiliency, and continuity of operations.

Prior to Booz Allen, Himberger served as Technical Director of GTE/BBN Laboratories' Sensors & Systems Technology Division, where he supported DARPA, DOD laboratories and acquisition commands, and various international (e.g., Japan, UK) defense and commercial efforts. He led modeling and simulation efforts there, as well as development of operational systems to provide direct support to combat missions. Prior to GTE/BBN, he served as the Chief Scientist to Epoch Engineering, developing devices and systems supporting the defense and medical communities, among others.

Himberger is the Chairman-Elect of the Board of Directors of the Safe America Foundation (SAF), and serves on the boards of other non-profits, including the Center for Excellence in Education (CEE).

Himberger earned a BS degree in Physics from Nebraska Wesleyan University, and MS and PhD degrees in Physics from Georgetown University.

Himberger will be based in NORC's Bethesda, MD office.
