Consumers Energy Recognizes Energy Awareness Month Through Campus Recruiting and Classroom Presentations

JACKSON, Mich., Oct. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- In recognition of Energy Awareness Month, Consumers Energy employees are visiting schools throughout Michigan, as well as conducting strategic recruiting at several state colleges and universities. The initiative, called Consumers Energy on Campus, focuses on identifying the utility's future workforce.
With significant workforce transition expected in coming years, Consumers Energy is alerting students in college and high school to career opportunities, as well as raising awareness with middle and elementary school students about energy issues.
"We know that in order to have a 'ready-to-go' workforce in the future we must begin that awareness and recruitment process today," said Paulette Boggs, director of talent acquisition and diversity. "Energy Awareness Month provides an ideal time to alert young people to good career opportunities in the utility field, particularly in engineering, information technology, business, accounting and finance."
Consumers Energy is investing $6-billion plus in Michigan over the next five years to help strengthen the state's energy infrastructure, create jobs and protect the state's natural resources with energy efficiency and renewable energy.
Consumers Energy recruiters are visiting Michigan State University, the University of Michigan, Central Michigan University, Western Michigan University, Lawrence Tech University, Grand Valley State University, Ferris State University, Wayne State University, Delta College, Jackson Community College and Lansing Community College.

Consumers Energy employees also are presenting the award-winning Hazard Hamlet and Respect the Flags programs to elementary students.
