BURLINGAME, Calif., Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ — ECC announced a formal mentor protege agreement with JSR, Inc., a Hispanic-owned, woman-owned, small disadvantaged business in the transitional phase of the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) 8(a) Program.

Under the agreement, ECC will mentor JSR under a Mentor/Protege Developmental Plan, which identifies specific areas of assistance designed to strengthen JSR’s technical capabilities, project capacities, and growth and development as they move throughout the program.

“We see great potential in JSR’s ability to thrive in our industry based on the performance, knowledge, and capabilities they have demonstrated,” comments Manjiv S. Vohra, PE, ECC’s President and CEO. “ECC looks forward to a very successful business relationship with JSR and continued success with the SBA.”

ECC will use their experience, capabilities, and lessons learned to broaden and strengthen JSR’s corporate capabilities and employee skills through training, mentoring, and direct experience. The team has already worked together on ECC’s design-build renovation project at Lackland AFB; and under the plan, JSR will gain further opportunities through subcontracting and/or joint venture opportunities with ECC.

The plan also includes multiple elements to ensure the successful transfer of information and approaches for JSR to gain experience in the construction management industry, specifically on securing multiple and large-scale military construction projects larger than $10 million; as well as proposal development, project management, and estimating.

“JSR sees the positive experience and success ECC has had as a graduate of the SBA’s 8(a) and mentor-protege programs,” says JSR President Nancy Greaves. “As a reputable, large, and experienced company, ECC’s mentorship will provide the springboard we need to launch JSR into that next level of growth and capability.”

Established in 2003, JSR, Inc. is a Hispanic-owned, woman-owned, small disadvantaged business specializing in multi-disciplined and design/build construction, as well as specialty and architectural metal fabrication and installation. JSR was recently named a 2009 “Outstanding Company of the Year” from the San Antonio Business Opportunity Council (SABOC).

ECC, founded in 1985, began as an entrepreneurial startup and participated in the SBA’s 8(a) program. Today, ECC is a large, employee-owned business that provides a complete range of services to support our clients’ missions, including environmental remediation, design-build construction, and munitions response.
