Fattah Praises $200 Million PECO Grant: ‘Customers Win. The Economy Wins. The Environment Wins.’
WASHINGTON, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA) releases the following statement upon the announcement by the White House that PECO Energy Company will receive a $200 million grant for Smart Energy Grid technology from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act:
“The electricity customers of the Philadelphia area — and that means all of us — are the huge winners in today’s announcement by President Obama that PECO Energy will be receiving $200 million to build and provide Smart Energy Grid technology. We will all be able to use electricity much more intelligently, efficiently and inexpensively by monitoring and controlling our energy use. Our community will gain jobs under the Obama Recovery program tied to installation and operation of Smart Energy technology, just as our nation gains with the entire $3.4 billion investment.
“I joined PECO Energy officials earlier this year when they announced their application and plans for smart energy modernization. As a member of the House Appropriations Committee’s Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development I supported and advocated for Smart Energy as part of the President’s broad and highly successful stimulus program under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
“This is classic win-win: PECO customers win. The economy wins. The environment wins. PECO itself wins as a forward looking utility that is preparing for tomorrow. Thank you Mister President: the Smart Energy Grid is smart for everyone.”
