INDIANAPOLIS, Nov. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Dow AgroSciences, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW), was recognized for industry-leading technology and innovation with three Agrow Awards. The prestigious Agrow Awards honor corporate and individual excellence in the crop protection and production industry.

Winners of the 2009 Agrow Awards were selected by a panel of 12 professionals from the crop protection and agricultural biotech industry, and were announced on Nov. 11 during an awards ceremony in London, United Kingdom.

“It’s a great honor to be recognized again by the Agrow Awards and our peers in the industry for our work in researching and delivering differentiated solutions that satisfy unmet needs of our customers,” said Dan Kittle, Ph.D., vice president R&D for Dow AgroSciences. “Our robust pipeline of crop protection and agricultural biotech technologies will continue to deliver powerful new tools and options to growers around the globe.”

Dow AgroSciences’ products were recognized with awards in the following categories:

Best Novel Agricultural Biotechnology – Dow AgroSciences Herbicide Tolerant Trait Technology

Dow AgroSciences Herbicide Tolerant Trait Technology is a family of genes that can improve and enhance herbicide tolerance systems in multiple crops and for multiple herbicides. These traits will allow growers to utilize highly effective, affordable and broad-spectrum herbicides in cropping systems where use was previously excluded due to crop injury or soil carry over concerns.

Best Formulations Innovation – LORSBAN(®) Advanced Insecticide

LORSBAN(®) Advanced insecticide is the first low volatile organic compound (VOC) formulation of chlorpyrifos. In addition to reducing VOCs found in previous formulations, LORSBAN Advanced has other valuable attributes such as reduced handling expenses, storage advantages, and improved odor, all without compromising cost or efficacy. LORSBAN Advanced is being introduced throughout the United States in 2009, and Dow AgroSciences plans to expand the technology globally as registrations are received.

Best New Crop Protection Product – Pyroxsulam

Pyroxsulam is a novel herbicide for postemergence grass and broadleaf weed control in cereals. It provides the widest known weed control spectrum in cereals and also delivers on an impressive array of broadleaf weeds. Overall, the herbicide has a very favorable environmental and toxicological profile including attributes such as low dose, low toxicity and short residual.

Pyroxsulam was launched in 2008, and is being adopted quickly around the world due to its wide control spectrum and unique technical attributes that distinguish it from the competition.
