how the footprint can be reduced for future conferences and finally will
provide and retire the carbon offsets verified to the Voluntary Carbon
Standard (VCS) from the Irani wastewater methane avoidance project.

About Irani
The Irani wastewater methane avoidance project is located in the Campina
da Alegria district, Vargem Bonita city,
The purpose of the project is to avoid methane emissions from the current
wastewater treatment at the Cellulose Irani Paper and Pulp manufacturing
company. This project involves the installation of a new wastewater treatment
scheme, involving aerobic treatment, which is also referred to as secondary
or biological treatment. The new wastewater treatment system also uses highly
aerated activated sludge which can then be decanted and reused.
The Irani wastewater methane avoidance project has been verified to the
Voluntary Carbon Standard and reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 58,000
tonnes a year.
