Graham Warwick of AVIATION WEEK Receives AIA’s 2009 Lyman Award for Outstanding Aviation Journalism
NEW YORK, Dec. 7 /PRNewswire/ — The Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) today announced that Graham Warwick, senior technology editor of AVIATION WEEK, is the winner of the 2009 Lauren D. Lyman Award for excellence in aviation journalism. The award ceremony will take place during the AIA’s 45th annual Year-end Review and Forecast Luncheon on December 16 in Washington, D.C.
With more than 30 years of experience and winner of the Royal Aeronautical Society’s 2002 Decade of Excellence Award, Graham Warwick is highly regarded for his deep understanding of technology. He is frequently an expert guest speaker, appearing on programs such as Public Radio International’s “The Takeaway” and NBC News. At AVIATION WEEK, Graham Warwick is responsible for coordinating all engineering and technology coverage for its print and web properties, with a focus on identifying technologies of strategic importance to global aviation, aerospace and defense. Born and educated in Scotland, he graduated in aeronautical engineering and worked in advanced design at Hawker Siddeley Aviation before becoming an aerospace journalist at Flight International. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society.
“The selection committee could not have picked a more deserving recipient of this prestigious award,” said Anthony L. Velocci, Jr., editor-in-chief of Aviation Week & Space Technology. “Graham’s extensive contributions provide valuable insights into the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of aerospace news, and everyone at AVIATION WEEK is very pleased to see this recognition of his work.”
The award is named after Lauren “Deac” Lyman, a Pulitzer-prize winning aviation reporter with The New York Times who was also a public relations executive with United Aircraft, predecessor to United Technologies Corp. First awarded in 1972, the prize goes to a journalist or public relations professional in aviation who exhibits Lyman’s high standard of excellence. Former editor-in-chief of Aviation Week & Space Technology David North (2006) and AVIATION WEEK contributing editor Pierre Sparaco (2002) have also received the award.
