PRINCETON, N.J., Dec. 8 /PRNewswire/ — With the arrival of the holiday season, local Princeton resident and CEO of Marcal Manufacturing Tim Spring has donated an assortment of arts and crafts kits and supplies to the Princeton Young Achievers Program. While Marcal Manufacturing is only a small paper mill based out of Elmwood Park, NJ, they are making a big difference in more ways than just saving trees. With times being tough, Marcal has made an extra effort this year to make sure that their philanthropic philosophy is still being carried out. Earlier this year they donated truckloads of their 100% recycled paper products to charities located in the Southwest.

“It pleases me to see Mr. Spring bridging the gap between corporate and nonprofit worlds, especially during these challenging times,” said Pamela Elmi, Executive Director at Princeton Young Achievers. “It is so nice to see someone from the different side of the track working toward the same goals that we are,” she added. Princeton Young Achievers (PYA) is a unique after-school program that helps 100 children from lower-income families improve their school performance. Princeton students meet at 3 neighborhood centers for: homework support, enriching activities, one-on-one tutoring, literacy support and special activities. The “PYA located right here in Princeton does an exceptional job of educating and caring for children from lower-income families,” said Mr. Spring. “I hope that this donation will make the holidays brighter for these kids in need. It is important to remember that Christmas is about giving, not shopping.”

This year Marcal re-launched their line of 100% recycled paper products that they have been manufacturing for over 50 years under the name Marcal Small Steps. With their new message being: “If every household in the US replaced just one role of paper towels made from trees with one of our Small Steps(TM) rolls, together we could save over 1,000,000 trees.” The name for their products was clearly no mistake; by selecting their products you can make an easy small step toward making the world a better place.

With the holiday season here, their hope is that others realize that the same thing applies for charitable gestures. Mr. Spring’s deep belief is that you don’t have to write a million dollar check to make a major impact in the world; you just need a collaborative effort. Together all of our ‘small steps’ will make a big difference.
