Donan Engineering is a third-generation family-owned engineering firm that was founded in 1947 in Madisonville, Kentucky. From 1947 until 1999, the firm focused on providing mostly conventional engineering services (civil, structural, environmental, architecture, etc.). In 1999, with approximately 20 employees in four offices, the decision was made to focus exclusively on the forensic engineering and fire investigation industry.

The firm is now headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky. Including the two offices in Florida and one in Chicago opening January 1, Donan now has over 160 employees operating from 24 offices in 12 states. From these locations, the firm completed approximately 18,000 forensic investigations in 2009 for a client base consisting primarily of insurance companies, attorneys, commercial property owners and businesses, manufacturers, utilities, and homeowners.
