MARLBOROUGH, Mass., Feb. 17 /PRNewswire/ — Block Engineering, a leading developer of MEMS, laser and FTIR spectroscopy sensors, announced today the addition of Adam Erlich as its new VP of Marketing and Business Development. Adam will lead all commercialization efforts for Block’s technologies and products, especially its next generation MEMS and infrared laser based handheld and portable spectrometers for detection and identification of chemical threats.
Petros Kotidis, CEO of Block Engineering, commented, “Block has achieved some critical product development milestones over the past few months and we are now ready to introduce our technologies and products to both military and commercial markets. Adam brings to our company many years of experience in commercializing high technology products and his background covers a wide variety of both commercial and military markets. Block is now taking this decades-long knowledge of infrared spectroscopy to a new level by introducing novel MEMS and infrared lasers based spectrometers into commercial opportunities for detection and identification of substances, while at the same time growing the military applications and supporting its current customers.”
Prior to joining Block, Adam was founder and president of Igeneco, Inc., a marketing and business development consulting firm. Earlier in his career, Adam was one of the first employees at Digital Optics, one of the most innovative companies in micro-optical packaging, and he was responsible for the company’s dramatic growth, reaching revenues of $10M before it was sold to Tessera. Adam holds MA degrees from George Washington and Columbia Universities in Technology Policy/Management and Politics, and BS in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University.
About Block Engineering:
Founded in 1956, Block Engineering is a leading developer of high performance FT-IR spectrometers for chemical detection and analysis to military, government, commercial, and industrial customers. Its Mobile Chemical Agent Detector (MCAD) system, in partnership with Northrop Grumman Corporation, and, PORTHOS, a portable FT-IR spectrometer system, remotely detect chemical threats as far as 3 miles and protect against chemical warfare agents and weapons of mass destruction. Block’s systems are currently used to protect critical infrastructure in the Washington Capital region. Following this success, Block has applied its extensive knowledge of spectroscopy and chemical detection towards revolutionary MEMS-based, miniaturized, laser and FT-IR spectrometers, such as the ChemPen, a low cost, FTIR chemical detector the size of a fountain pen.
