ACTE To Release Career Readiness Definition

April 8, 2010
Repost This

ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 8 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The following is being released by the Association for Career and Technical Education:

WHAT: Recently, groups such as the Obama Administration, National Governors Association (NGA), Council of Chief State School Officers (CSSO) and other national and state policymakers have discussed the importance of high schools preparing students to be “college- and career-ready.” However, most the discussion has centered on college readiness, with little focus on actual career readiness. The question remains, “What does it mean to be career-ready?”

The Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) has developed a definition for “career ready,” and will release it during a teleconference call. ACTE will discuss why it developed the definition and the three major skill areas students must have in order to be career-ready. The call will also include perspectives from a business and industry representative and an administrator on the necessary skills students need to have in order to be competitive in the global economy.

The Teleconference Speakers are:

  • Jan Bray, ACTE Executive Director
  • Allyson Knox, Academic Program Manager – National Partnerships, US Partners in Learning, Microsoft Corporation
  • Dave Bunting, Executive Director Iowa ACTE

Participants will make brief statements and respond to questions.

WHO: ACTE is the nation’s largest not-for-profit education association dedicated to the advancement of education that prepares youth and adults for successful careers.
