Join the Green Herd in Boston’s Beautiful Artesani Park Saturday, April 17th for the Annual Race Against Extinction 5-K
Commemoration of 40th Anniversary of Earth Day to Support the WWF’s Year of the Tiger Campaign
BOSTON, April 14 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The annual Race Against Extinction is being held this Saturday, April 17th at 11 a.m. in Artesani Park on the Charles River in Boston. Proceeds from this year’s event will support the World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF) Year of the Tiger Campaign.
Participants will include Cheetahs (experienced and first-time runners), Tortoises (walkers), Gazelles (inline skaters), Kangaroos (parents with strollers), Wolf Packs (runners or walkers with their pets) – and a polar bear. The polar bear’s participation is an encore to his running of last year’s NYC Marathon.
Come celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day early – there is still room to join this herd and we will also be accepting day-of-race onsite registrations, rain or shine! To participate in Saturday’s event visit The Race Against Extinction’s Active.com registration page at: http://www.active.com/running/boston-ma/the-race-against-extinction-5k-2010.
This year’s Race will highlight the plight of earth’s wild tiger population, which has declined by fully 95% in the last century – leaving only approximately 3,200 of these creatures living in the wild today.
The Race Against Extinction seeks to ensure by a variety of means that its events are as green as possible, including using recycled Tyvek racing bibs and the now-fabled lost-and-found-and-recycled Hub Cap Trophies, awarded to first- AND last-place finishers. “We are all winners in the Race Against Extinction – and we’re all in this together,” says Jeff Neterval, founder of The Race Against Extinction. “There are no losers. This race is dedicated entirely to having fun and learning more about how to protect our planet’s diminishing biodiversity.”
“The Race Against Extinction” is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to educate and raise awareness among children and their families of the critical need to preserve our planet’s rapidly diminishing biodiversity and increase funding for established international conservation groups and their efforts in preserving the habitats of endangered species. More information about the non-profit can be found at www.theraceagainstextinction.com.
