ANGA Applauds Signing of Colorado Clean Air-Clean Jobs Act

April 19, 2010

WASHINGTON, April 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ – Today Colorado Governor Bill Ritter signed into law the Clean Air-Clean Jobs Act, which will retire or retrofit older coal-fired power plants to embrace low-emission energy sources, such as natural gas.

The following statement is from Regina Hopper, President and CEO of America’s Natural Gas Alliance (ANGA):

“We applaud Governor Ritter for signing this landmark legislation into law. This is an historic and, let’s hope, precedent-setting effort to enhance the local economies, environment and health of communities across our country.

“In building support for this plan, diverse stakeholders stood together to identify practical steps to begin making a difference today to advance both economic and environmental interests. We are proud that clean, abundant American natural gas will contribute to clearing the air and advancing the state’s clean energy future.

“This new law will allow clean energy sources, including natural gas, to play a growing role in improving community health, adding to the 130,000 Colorado jobs already supported by natural gas and protecting the state’s majestic outdoors, which are central to Colorado’s tourism industry.

“In this unifying effort, which brought together bipartisan lawmakers as well as members of the environmental and energy community, lies an example we believe the rest of the nation can follow.”
