As an ingredient used in consumer goods like snack foods, soaps and cosmetics, demand for palm oil is growing. To meet this growing demand, large tracts of forest land are being converted to oil palm plantations, endangering virgin forests in Indonesia, Malaysia and Papua New Guinea.
In this webinar entitled “The Link Between Palm Oil and Paper”, guest speakers Craig Hanson, WRI director of the people & ecosystems program and Amber Garwood, NewPage vice president of communications and government affairs, explain how palm oil sourcing impacts the market for certified papers and share how conscientious supply chain choices in sourcing certified papers can make a difference to the global environment.
Additionally, webinar participants will receive an update on Project POTICO, a joint initiative of WRI and NewPage to help conserve rainforests in Indonesia by creating opportunities for ecologically and fiscally sustainable palm oil. The project is entering its second year.
The “All About Sustainability” webinar series is sponsored by NewPage Corporation, North America’s largest coated paper manufacturer, and the Target Marketing Group. Archived for 90 days after the live event, previous webinar topics have included the popular “Green Marketing without Greenwashing” and “The Lacey Act”.
