Lumeta® Receives UL 1703 Certificate for PowerPly(TM) 400W Roof Integrated PV Modules
IRVINE, Calif., July 13 /PRNewswire/ — Lumeta, Inc. (www.lumetasolar.com) announced today that it was awarded CSA International (CSA) certification for its patented PowerPly(TM) roof integrated photovoltaic (PV) solar module in accordance with UL 1703.
“UL 1703 compliance is an important milestone for Lumeta; it recognizes the high quality of our PowerPly modules and allows us to begin commercial shipments to our customers in the U.S.,” said Tim Davey, CEO of Lumeta’s parent company, DRI Companies. “Combined with accelerated life testing from an independent lab, this certification validates the long term robustness of our innovative patented design.”
The PowerPly 400W module combines a DuPont(TM) Tefzel front sheet and lightweight composite substrate with high-efficiency monocrystalline silicon solar cells to maximize power density, eliminating the glass and aluminum frame structure of conventional modules. PowerPly is designed for low slope applications; it adheres directly to the roof without racking, reducing system weight and eliminating wind loading issues. With no roof penetrations, PowerPly prevents water leaks and costly roof maintenance while significantly reducing installation time and costs.
“PowerPly represents a significant advance in module technology. We have the benefits of using proven cSi technology in a form factor which allows direct integration to the roofing membrane,” said Jonathan Pickering, EVP and GM of Lumeta. “With the CSA certification, North American commercial building owners now have the option for a lightweight, high power density, PV system which does not compromise the functionality of their roof systems.”
Lumeta PowerPly is being manufactured in Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd.’s specialized building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) facility in Wuxi, China; Suntech is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of PV cells and modules.
Lumeta will be exhibiting at Intersolar North America 2010 in San Francisco’s Moscone Center West Hall from July 13-15, booth number 8559.
CSA is a leading provider of product testing and certification services. They test products for compliance to applicable national and international standards for safety and performance, and issue certification marks for qualified products. Certification of solar modules to the UL 1703 standard requires an extensive set of electrical and mechanical tests at varying climactic conditions including fire, water spray, mechanical impact, accelerated thermal cycling, and snow load.
Lumeta, Inc. is one of four wholly owned subsidiaries of DRI Companies, a privately held company and one of the most respected roofing and solar contractors in the United States. Lumeta, Inc., headquartered in Irvine, California, is a leading developer of Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) products. Lumeta solar modules become a part of the roof, creating clean, renewable energy, without compromising the aesthetics and functionality of roof systems.
