Profile America — Sunday, September 12th. Every weekend all summer long, in many towns across America, there are antique automobile shows — featuring everything from Model T Fords to exotic Ferraris. Today in Tuckerton, New Jersey, an annual show will wind up a weekend dedicated to antique boats. Names such as Hacker, Chris-Craft and Gar Wood will once again thrill onlookers with their sleek shapes, varnished wood and powerful engines, while sailboats from long ago will recall bright summers along the Jersey shore. There are nearly 17 million recreational boats in the U.S., more than 11 million of them power boats. Just over a million-and-a-half others are sailboats and personal watercraft, such as jet skis, number more than a million. Profile America is in its 14th year as a public service of the U.S. Census Bureau.
