Wilcox Family Farms Wins Seattle Green Business Award
SEATTLE, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ — Wilcox Family Farms, the century-old Northwest egg producer, has been recognized by Seattle Business Magazine as a green pioneer in sustainability, taking home the Green Washington Award for Agriculture in the magazine’s third annual awards program. Wilcox Family Farms was named one of 13 winners, chosen from more than 100 nominations and 33 finalists. The awards were presented at the Bell Harbor International Conference Center in Seattle.
Green Washington has become the leading green business awards event in Washington. The fourth-generation operated Wilcox Family Farms was recognized for their leadership in water conservation and recycling. Wilcox uses the wastewater from egg cleaning and runoff to water crops, in addition to repurposing waste products from chickens into organic fertilizer. The organically grown crops are then fed to the flock of chickens, and the chickens lay the eggs.
Other Seattle Green Business Award winners include Snohomish County Utilities, Virginia Mason Medical Center, Burgerville, REI, Boeing, ShoWare Center, Vulcan Real Estate, Hyatt Olive 8, the University of Washington, Blue Sky Cleaners, Optimum Energy and General Biodiesel. All were honored as innovators, working hard on continuing improvement in sustainable green business practices.
