Big Month for U.S. Car Sales

The big three U.S. automakers posted huge sales figures for July, in many cases setting records, and foreign companies did well, too.
General Motors Corp. sold 530,027 new cars and trucks in July, up 20 percent from July 2004 and GM's best July sales since 1979.
Ford Motor Co. sold 366,548 vehicles, a July sales record.
DaimlerChrysler AG's U.S. unit, which includes Mercedes-Benz USA and the Chrysler Group, reported July sales of 240,146, a 27-percent increase.
Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc. sold 216,417 vehicles, its best sales month and a 12.3-percent increase.
American Honda, which includes Honda and Acura models sold 143,217 vehicles, a 14.5-percent increase.
Nissan North America Inc. sold 107,300 vehicles in July, an increase of 19.4 percent over last year and its best sales month.
Mazda Motor Corp. sold 24,820 vehicles in July, up 9.7 percent.
The BMW Group in the United States sold 26,840 vehicles, an increase of 11-percent increase.
Volvo Cars of North America LLC sold 11,511 vehicles, a 6.3-percent decline.
