New World Home Builds Family Residence for Former Governor of New Jersey and Head of the EPA – Christie Todd Whitman
OLDWICK, N.J., Dec. 9, 2010 /PRNewswire/ — New World Home, a rapidly growing and award winning developer of sustainable housing, is currently building a family residence for the former head of the EPA and Governor of New Jersey, Christie Todd Whitman. The family is building a custom designed home that is currently on target to be the first USGBC LEED® Platinum and NAHB Emerald factory-built home in New Jersey. Christie Whitman’s daughter, Kate Whitman Annis, and her family will be occupying the home in early March 2011. This project will also be the first house of any type in the state to achieve Platinum and Emerald certification without relying upon the use of any renewable energy sources such as solar panels, geothermal systems or wind turbines. The Whitman family selected New World Home because of their innovative and sustainable housing solution.
New World Home is also responsible for building the first LEED® Platinum factory-built homes in New York and Georgia. These homes save more than 50% in energy consumption, thousands of gallons of water per year and provide a superior indoor air quality when compared to typical code-built homes.
A fundamental building criteria for the Whitman family was the ability to achieve LEED® Platinum certification for the home. New World Home is also pursuing NAHB Emerald, EPA Indoor airPLUS and WaterSense certification for the home. By utilizing a proprietary ‘whole-systems’ approach to home building, New World Home is able to consistently attain the highest levels of certification in the industry.
“We’ve been searching the market for many years for an authentic green modular housing company that incorporates traditional architecture,” says Governor Whitman. “My family and I were very excited when we connected with New World Home since the company is clearly making great strides in transforming the homebuilding industry.”
Christie Whitman is currently the President of The Whitman Strategy Group (WSG), a consulting firm that specializes in energy and environmental issues. WSG offers a comprehensive set of solutions to problems facing businesses, organizations and governments, and has been at the forefront of helping leading companies find innovative solutions to environmental challenges. Literally interpreting the ancient adage, “we do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children”, the Whitmans consider their New World Home an exciting family project. Upon completion, the homestead will be purchased by the Governor’s daughter and son-in-law who will raise three of Christie’s grandchildren in a healthy and eco-conscious environment.
“We are thrilled to be working with the Whitman family and furthering our pursuit of achieving historic green milestones in the residential building industry,” says Tyler Schmetterer, Co-Founder of New World Home. “With our shared commitment to the environment and the support of Governor Whitman and her family, this project should bring greater awareness to the advantages of green modular housing and encourage mainstream use of factory-built construction to provide healthier and more sustainable homes.”
