Westinghouse Electric Company Wins $400 Million Fuel Contract for V.C. Summer Site in South Carolina

February 14, 2011

PITTSBURGH, Feb. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Westinghouse Electric Company today announced that it has entered into a long-term agreement with South Carolina Electric & Gas Company (SCE&G), the principal subsidiary of SCANA Corporation (NYSE: SCG), to provide nuclear fuel fabrication services for the V.C. Summer nuclear power plant in South Carolina.

The contract is valued in excess of $400 million, and includes fuel fabrication services for the existing reactor there, as well as for two new AP1000® nuclear power units currently in the early stages of construction. First delivery is scheduled to occur in 2012, and the contract runs through 2033.

The agreement is consistent with the utility’s contract with Westinghouse and the Shaw Group to provide engineering, procurement and construction services for the two new AP1000 units, V.C. Summer Units 2 and 3, which will be owned by SCE&G and the South Carolina Public Service Authority (Santee Cooper).

Joe Belechak, senior vice president of the Westinghouse Nuclear Fuel product line, said that the contract is one that will be beneficial to both companies and to the state of South Carolina.

“Clearly, Westinghouse and SCE&G will benefit by the long-term nature of this agreement,” he said. “But it is also important to point out that this fuel will be fabricated at our site in Columbia, South Carolina [USA], where Westinghouse has made significant investments over recent years to help ensure we have the capacity to provide the high-quality fuel the growing nuclear energy industry will need in coming years and decades.”

SCE&G is a regulated public utility engaged in the generation, transmission, distribution and sale of electricity to approximately 660,000 customers in South Carolina. The company also provides natural gas service to approximately 309,000 customers throughout the state. Information about SCE&G is available on the company’s Web site at www.sceg.com.

Westinghouse Electric Company, a group company of Toshiba Corporation (TKY:6502), is the world’s pioneering nuclear energy company and is a leading supplier of nuclear plant products and technologies to utilities throughout the world. Westinghouse supplied the world’s first pressurized water reactor in 1957 in Shippingport, Pa.
