EMPSi Awarded Contract for Battle Mountain Resource Management Planning Project

March 2, 2011

RENO, Nev., March 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — The United States Department of Interior, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) – Battle Mountain District Office has awarded a $1.6 million contract to Environmental Management Planning Solutions, Inc. (EMPSi) to prepare a resource management plan (RMP) to guide development and conservation on 10.5 million acres of federal land within Lander County, Eureka County, Nye County, and Esmeralda County, Nevada.

The BLM has over 120 Field Offices that manage 245 million surface acres, as well as 700 million acres of subsurface mineral estate. The Bureau is in the process of revising the RMPs for these lands.

The Battle Mountain District is one of the largest district offices in the nation and covers landscapes ranging from desert in the south to the Humboldt-Toyaibe Forest in the north. The RMP will address a number of critical planning issues, including management of wild horses, increasing recreational activity, mining, renewable energy and coordination with adjacent land owners (e.g. Nellis Air Force Base).

“We are excited to work with BLM and the Battle Mountain Field Office on this important project. It complements our ongoing work on five other RMPs and builds upon our strong partnership with the Bureau and its staff,” said David Batts, EMPSi’s planning director.

More information about the project can be found on the project Web site: http://www.blm.gov/nv/st/en/fo/battle_mountain_field/blm_information/rmp.com
