Commissioner James D. Boyd Added to the Impressive List of Keynote Speakers at the Upcoming Coachella Valley Energy Summit

PALM SPRINGS, Calif., May 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Energy Commissioner Vice Chair, James D. Boyd has been added to the impressive list of keynote speakers at the upcoming Third Annual Coachella Valley Energy Summit. Commissioner Boyd presides over the Energy Commission’s Transportation and Fuels Committee overseeing the State’s Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Program. He also oversees the Commission’s Global Climate Change, Carbon Capture and Sequestration, Renewable Energy and Research and Development Programs.

In addition to Commissioner Boyd, Energy Commissioner Carla Peterman, environmentalist and actor Ed Begley Jr., Riverside County Supervisors Marion Ashley and John J.Benoit, Director of Customer Energy Efficiency and Solar Development of Southern California Edison, Gene Rodrigues, VP of State Government Affairs for Southern California Gas Company, Mitch Mitchell, Coachella Valley Mayors and Tribal Leaders, and other policy and industry leaders are scheduled to speak.

Tom Kirk, Executive Director of Coachella Valley Association of Governments (CVAG) had this to say regarding the impressive speaker line-up, “The slate of keynote speakers and panelists is the most dynamic and diversified ever brought together for a summit of this sort. The Summit will be held on May 12th at the Palm Springs Convention Center and on May 13th at the Palm Springs Renaissance Hotel. The first day of the summit includes lunch and will consist of keynote speakers and panel discussions on topics such as emerging technologies, natural gas vehicles, biofuels, energy efficiency, and the Coachella Valley as the nation’s sustainability and renewable energy hub. Coinciding with the first day’s program, the summit will offer exhibitors a chance to showcase groundbreaking and renewable technologies including hybrid, electric, and natural gas vehicles.

The event is being produced by local government affairs and public relations firm Burke Rix Communications which is working with presenting sponsors and steering committee members Coachella Valley Association of Governments (CVAG), Coachella Valley Economic Partnership, Southern California Edison, Southern California Gas Company and the Imperial Irrigation District.

Along with a continental breakfast, workshops and panel discussions the second day of the Summit (Friday, May 13th) will highlight a renewable energy resources focused bus tour. One of the exciting stops of the tour will be a visit to the Annenberg Estate at Sunnylands Visitors Center and Desert Garden’s green facilities.
