Auto Alliance Statement on ‘Click It or Ticket’ Campaign

May 26, 2011

WASHINGTON, May 26, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Statement from Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers on National “Click It or Ticket” Campaign, attributable to Alliance Vice President of Federal Affairs Shane Karr:

“Safety belts are still the most effective and important safety equipment in any vehicle, and we support efforts to increase their use even further. The Alliance commends and supports federal and state safety agencies, law enforcement and others for their leadership in protecting America’s motorists through this year’s ‘Click It or Ticket’ mobilization, which runs until June 5.

“The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that in 2009 alone, safety belts saved more than 12,700 lives. We’ve made tremendous progress in boosting the national safety belt use rate to 85 percent, which is a remarkable increase of about 70 percentage points over the last 30 years. However, we can go even further, and bring that figure up even higher through the ‘Click It or Ticket’ campaign, which will prevent even more fatalities and injuries.”
