Real Flame Responds to Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan Statement

RACINE, Wis., Aug. 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — In response to Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s press conference yesterday regarding her recommendation to ban all gel fuels in the wake of accidents that resulted in serious burn injuries, Real Flame, a Racine, Wis.-based company that has sold gel-fueled products for more than two decades, wants to clearly communicate that its gel fuel has not been responsible for a single burn incident. Real Flame also urges consumers to be aware that there are different formulations of pour gel fuel in the marketplace today that have different qualities and burning characteristics. Not all fuel gels are created equal.

“Real Flame understands the Illinois Attorney General’s reaction, and is saddened that people have been injured as a result of gel fuel products,” said John Ridgeway, Vice President Sales and Marketing for Real Flame. “However, it is important to note that some fuel gel products with a long history of product testing and consumer safety are on the market today, none of which have been the cause of these accidents and should not be included in a ban.”

Real Flame has been cooperating with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) over the last six weeks and its products have not been part of any recall or ban, nor have the pour gel products been responsible for a single burn injury in the company’s 27 year history. Real Flame has been actively working to promote consumer safety and to notify state and local elected bodies of the product’s composition, history and safety record, along with the fact that Real Flame has been exempted from other proposed legislation and product bans.
