U.S. Textile Industry Officials Say Deal Meets Trade Needs

U.S. textile industry officials expressed support Monday for a plan to limit imports of Chinese textiles and clothing during the next three years.

The trade deal was to be announced today in London.

Cass Johnson, president of the National Council of Textile Organizations, was among industry officials briefed on the agreement ahead of the announcement. He said it meets the industrys key demands for protection against a flood of Chinese imports.

U.S. government officials would not discuss details, but industry officials briefed on it said the agreement will take effect Jan. 1 and last through 2008 -- longer than a similar deal China reached earlier this year with the European Union. It would cover 34 clothing and textile categories , including shirts and underwear.

Two Greensboro men face charges in ecstasy bust

Two Greensboro men are facing charges after a drug bust involving more than 5,000 tablets of ecstasy.

Phoung Quoc Huynh, 32, of 1926 Merritt Drive, is charged with two counts of conspiracy to traffic in MDMA, also known as ecstasy, the Randolph County Sheriffs Office said.

Tu Tuan Nguyen, 29, of 4102 Broadacres Drive, is charged with conspiracy to traffic and with trafficking in MDMA.

Both men were placed in the Guilford County jail under $5 million bonds.

The bust took place last week after a six-month investigation.

Officers also seized $4,510 in cash and a 2002 Honda. The street value of the drugs is about $50,000.
