Chinese Vice-Premier Hui Liangyu Stresses Bird Flu Prevention, Control

Beijing, 19 November: Chinese Vice-Premier Hui Liangyu Saturday [19 November] called for efforts to prevent and control highly infectious bird flu in an effective, orderly and efficient way, so as to strictly prevent from spread of bird flu among humans.
Redoubled efforts should be made to reduce the loss of the poultry sector while trying to ensure the health safety of people, said Hui, who is also member of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Central Committee and chief of the national headquarters on the prevention and control of highly infectious bird flu.
The vice-premier made the remarks at the third meeting of the headquarters.
The highly infectious bird flu has occurred in part of the country and human cases of bird flu have also been found in the country, which means the epidemic has become not only the No 1 killer for the poultry sector but also a major threat to the public health and safety, he said.
He urged people to be cool-headed, maintain a high degree of vigilance all the time, set up and improve an emergency mechanism, and implement the measures of prevention and control in full scale.
It is the primary task to strictly prevent the spread of bird flu among humans, so as to ensure the health and safety of the people, while top priority should be given to prevention and control of bird flu among fowls, to minimize the incidence of the epidemic, the official said.
He urged to increase efforts to develop vaccine for human use and highly effective vaccine for fowls. Substantial efforts should [be] made to ensure the production, quality control, storage and supply of the vaccine, he noted.
