China Orders 70 Boeing Aircraft

The Chinese government Sunday ordered 70 B737-700/800 aircraft from the U.S. Boeing manufacturer, worth about $4 billion.
The planes will be delivered to eight Chinese airline companies between 2006 and 2008, said Yang Guoqing, vice minister of the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China.
Since China bought the first Boeing aircraft B707 in the 1970s, it has purchased 534 aircraft, comprising two thirds of the country's fleet, the official state Xinhua news agency reported.
Robert Laird, vice president of the Boeing's China Sales division said in the next 20 years, China will need more than 3,000 new aircraft, as it is becoming one of the biggest civil aviation markets in the world.
The deal coincided with a state visit by U.S. President George Bush.
Dubai's Emirates Airlines ordered 42 Boeing 777 jetliners worth about $9.7 billion Sunday as the Dubai Air Show opened, the BBC reported.
