Better Get Your Skates on! Glasgow On Ice, George Square

YOU’LL have to get your skates on if you’re to take to the ice at Glasgow on Ice this year!

Because there’s only one week left before the urban skating rink packs away.

Already thousands of visitors have taken a break from Christmas shopping to enjoy what is one of Britain’s largest open-air ice rinks.

Set in the heart of Glasgow in George Square, the rink is set against the sparkling lights of the square’s Christmas illuminations and the striking backdrop of the City Chambers. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned skating pro, you’ll find something of interest at the winter spectacular.

Anyone aged over four can have a go (those aged under eight should be accompanied by an adult) to lap up the festive atmosphere with a few laps on the rink.

Costumed staff will be on hand to help novices – and watch out for a figure in a red suit who might just go whizzing past.

If you don’t want to test out the ice, then there’s stalls for adults to browse – the mulled wine stall and the rink-side cafe are best for keeping toasty when the temperatures plummet.

And children can have their photo taken with Father Christmas – and take away a pre-Christmas goodie bag – when they step inside Santa’s Grotto (GBP5 extra).

Why not take advantage of entrance fee savings with reduced rates on Monday and Tuesday, plus skating before 5pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday?

Until Christmas Eve 10am-10pm (11pm Fri & Sat), George Square, 0871 200 3940. GBP5-GBP7.50/GBP4-GBP5.
