Kiev, 19 December: Crimean Prime Minister Anatoliy Burdyuhov opposes vaccination of birds against bird flu in Crimea, the press service of the Agricultural Policy Ministry said after a meeting of the bird flu headquarters, which was held in Crimea on 17 December.
"Vaccine is out of the question because this issue has not been studied yet. Crimean territory is not for experiments," Burdyuhov told the meeting.
On 9-10 January, vaccination of poultry against bird flu will be discussed in Brussels and Ukrainian experts will attend the meeting.
The former head of the State Veterinary Department of Ukraine, Petro Verbytskyy, earlier called for vaccination of poultry in some Ukrainian regions. The International Epizootic Bureau did not recommend Ukraine to vaccinate poultry against bird flu because this would stop export of poultry to foreign markets.
Bird flu outbreaks were registered in Crimea in early December. Work to localize the virus is under way.
