Flights From Denmark Cancelled Following Pilots’ Strike

Scandinavian Airline System Denmark has cancelled all but nine of today’s remaining European flights from Copenhagen as a result of a pilots’ strike.

Long-haul flights are not affected, with one exception.

About 150 Danish SAS pilots are taking part in the strike, which came as traffic was returning to normal after snow and ice had caused widespread disruption over the weekend.

It is not known how long the strike will last and SAS is therefore refusing to promise customers much, urging them instead to monitor developments through text TV or Copenhagen Airport’s internet site.

There are also long waiting times and cancellations at Oslo’s Gardermoen Airport after more than 50 SAS Braathens pilots called in sick. A spokesman for the company refused to comment on speculation that pilots had agreed over the weekend to call in sick.
