Malaysia Airlines qualifies for global safety standard

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has joined the league of airlines in qualifying for the safety audit issued by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the MAS said on Tuesday.

MAS Managing Director Idris Jala on Tuesday received the certificate of the IATA's Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) in its headquarters here, the MAS said.

"Receiving the IOSA Certificate is another milestone in our airline's never ending journey to pursue with total determination a consistent achievement of maintaining a safe and secure operational environment for our customers, staff and other stake holders," Idris said in a statement released here.

MAS is the 43rd operator in the IOSA registry out of 275 IATA member airlines, Idris added.

According to the statement released by the MAS, IOSA is the world's first airline safety audit based on international standard of safety and quality within the aviation industry.

The IOSA Certificate has been recognized by the US Federal Aviation Authority (FAA), Australia's Civil Aviation Safety Authority, Transport Canada and Europe's Joint Aviation Authority, the MAS said.
