Labor Unions at American Airlines Thank Departing Senior VP, Finance & CFO James Beer for His Service; 'We Have the Greatest Respect for Him and His Abilities'

The leadership of the Allied Pilots Association and Transport Workers Union at American Airlines (NYSE:AMR) issued the following joint statement concerning the departure of AMR Corp. Senior Vice President, Finance & Chief Financial Officer James Beer:

"Since his appointment as Senior Vice President, Finance & Chief Financial Officer in Dec. 2003, James has made himself highly accessible to our respective unions and has consistently kept us apprised of our airline's financial condition. He has done so despite the demands of serving during the most financially challenging period in our airline's history. James has always treated us and our members with warmth and respect, and we in turn have the greatest respect for him and his abilities. We wish him the very best in his new opportunity with Symantec. He will be missed."

Founded in 1963, the Allied Pilots Association -- the largest independent pilot union in the U.S. -- is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas. APA represents the 13,000 pilots of American Airlines, including 2,890 pilots on furlough. The furloughs began shortly after the September 11, 2001 attacks. Founded in 1934, the Transport Workers Union represents nearly 125,000 workers in the nation's transportation industries, including 55,000 workers in the airline and government service industry in virtually all Class and Crafts.
