Feb. 14--Acting on a request from the airport board, the Aberdeen City Council approved lease guidelines Monday for the old airport terminal building.
The guidelines require a rental rate of $5 per square foot annually for the unimproved space. The tenant must also incur all costs of operating and repairing the building, and must rent out all of the approximately 15,000 square feet.
In addition, a deadline date of March 15 has been set.
Aberdeen's Blackstone Developers and the Federal Aviation Administration met to discuss possible uses for the building in late December. The old terminal had been slated for demolition this winter, but Blackstone expressed interest in putting an express shipping company in the building.
The old terminal has been empty since 2004, when the Transportation Security Administration office was moved out.
In other news Monday, the council:
-- Heard from Rick Pesek of Senior Meals. Pesek asked if city officials would be willing to volunteer to help with home delivery for a day. Pesek said volunteers are sometimes hard to come by, and he'd like to raise awareness for the program.
-- Approved a taxi license for Randy VanMeter and Aberdeen Shuttle and Delivery. Last week, the council approved a motor bus license for the company, but VanMeter said he received many phone calls asking him to run a taxi service as well.
-- Approved a bid for asphaltic concrete and surface repair mix to Aberdeen Asphalt with a total bid amount of $255,700.
-- Set a hearing date of Feb. 27 for a special one-day, retail, on-off sale malt beverage license to the Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce.
-- Set a bid date of March 8 for bids on watermain pipe, fittings and accessories, manhole covers, inlet frames and grates and sewer pipe fittings.
-- Approved a request to advertise for bids on the city hangar. The hangar is currently rented to a private company, but every five years that agreement comes up for renewal.
-- Awarded a bid for a snow removal equipment building to Steel Structures of Aberdeen Inc. in the amount of $1,155,443.30. Under the funding estimates, the city would have to contribute $218,970.95.
-- Approved a pay request to Helms & Associates for $8,925.64 for an airport layout plan update. The set of drawings needs to be updated periodically to show updates and future projects at the airport.
-- Approved a request to purchase an airport maintenance vehicle in the amount of $18,500 from Johnson Motors.
