POLICE today arrested a man in connection with the shooting of a woman police officer in Nottingham, writes Richard Edwards.

Trevon Kyron Thomas, 24, was held at Heathrow airport.

Detectives had stepped up the hunt for Thomas, who is alleged to have been involved in street drug-dealing in the city and has links to Jamaica.

Rookie Pc Rachael Bown, 23, was shot in the abdomen on Monday while investigating a burglary.

She had appeared to be recovering after five hours of surgery but suffered a setback yesterday and remains ” seriously ill”. Her family revealed that having woken after her first operation the first thing she did was apologise for not catching the gunman. She feared she would be sacked.

After further surgery yesterday at Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre she was able to talk to her family.

Nottinghamshire Chief Constable Steve Green said: “This is a very worrying time.”
