Attacks Cost Lives, Iraq Oil Income

Iraq's Oil Ministry said 138 people were killed in 186 attacks on its oil industry in 2005, costing the government $6.25 billion.
The oil flow has been cut in half since the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003 and the subsequent insurgency.
The BBC reports attacks on the oil fields and pipelines in the country has cut exports by 400,000 barrels a day.
Oil Ministry spokesman Assem Jihad said Iraq pumps 2 million barrels a day, down from the Saddam Hussein era by about 800,000.
U.S. Special Inspector General Stuart Bowen said the attacks are cutting into money going to the country's rebuilding efforts.
Most attacks are in northern pipelines heading to Turkey.
