Kuwait airport witnesses increase of passengers, flights in Jan.
KUWAIT CITY, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Kuwaiti Civil Aviation (KCA) announced here Wednesday that the Kuwait Airport witnessed an increase both in passengers and flights in January.
According to a statement of the KCA General Directorate, 476, 768 passengers departed from the airport in January this year while 455,960 arrived, showing a nine percent increase compared with the same period in 2005.
The number of flights operated from the airport also increased nine percent in January, with a total of 3,880 incoming and outgoing scheduled flights, 308 additional flights and 1,868 non- commercial flights.
The directorate attributed the increase mainly to the New Year' s and Eid holidays.
Meanwhile, the statement said that the Kuwait Airways represented 38 percent of overall traffic, while Al-Jazeera, the first Kuwaiti private airways, representing seven percent.
