Coalition for Luggage Security Reports That Luggage Screening is Operationally Inefficient

The Coalition for Luggage Security, reports the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Government Reform held a hearing on in-line baggage screening systems at Dulles International Airport last week, with U.S. Reps. Rom Davis (R-11th), Jim Moran (D-8th) and Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) asking officials how such systems can increase safety for passengers flying from Dulles and Reagan National Airport.
James Bennett, president and chief executive officer of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, said "the current system of screening checked baggage at our two airports, which is solely and exclusively the responsibility of the federal government, is not capable of meeting the current demand, is operationally inefficient, consumes an inordinate amount of Transportation Security Administration resources and is incapable of meeting the projected demand for our airports."
"We are investing nearly $8 million, at authority expense, designing in-line systems that both meet the demands of Dulles and Reagan National for checked baggage screening while improving the security of the aviation system," he continued. "The estimated cost of constructing in-line baggage screening systems at both Dulles and Regan National is $316 million."
"Our Coalition offers a system that costs the American government no money," said Richard A. Altomare, Founder and President of the Coalition for Luggage Security and CEO of Universal Express, Inc. (OTCBB:USXP) (http://www.usxp.com/securitywp.pdf)
"We remain publicly on the record. Sadly, these facts may now call for the action of the voting public. Some leaders who fear change and their free spending followers will create a very different and expensive world for our children and grandchildren."
"Our creative and fiscally responsible solution seems logical and worthy of these Representatives consideration," concluded Richard A. Altomare.
