Timeline of Northwest, Union Negotiations
By The Associated Press
A chronology of recent pay cut negotiations between Northwest Airlines and its workers:
-April 2003: Northwest says it wants $950 million in concessions from workers, an amount that eventually rises to $1.4 billion.
-Oct. 14, 2004: Pilots agree to a 15 percent pay cut and say they’ll give more once other unions do the same. Combined with a cut for salaried employees, the deal will save Northwest $300 million per year. But other unions resist.
-March 29, 2005: Northwest raises total concession demand to $1.1 billion.
-Aug 20, 2005: Mechanics, cleaners and custodians strike rather than accept pay reductions and major work rule changes.
-Sept. 14, 2005: Northwest files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy court protection on the same day as Delta Air Lines Inc. Both cite rising fuel prices.
-Jan. 14, 2006: Ground workers announce tentative agreement for pay cuts.
-March 1, 2006: Flight attendants reach tentative agreement for pay cuts.
-March 3, 2006: Northwest reaches tentative agreement with pilots, the last of its unions to agree to long-term pay cuts.
