Oil and Mineral Resources Minister Engineer Ali al-Nu'aymi today announced that the kingdom will increase spending on security for its oil installations. He said that this measure has become necessary following the foiled attack on the Buqayq oil processing plant. Al-Nuaymi added that the Saudi security forces can prevent any attack on the oil installations in the country. He also said that Saudi's current crude oil production is 9.5m barrels per day and that this level has not changed since 2004, adding that Riyadh has responded to the increased demand for oil from Asia while there was a reduction in the demand from the United States and Europe.
Al-Nu'aymi's statements came before OPEC's meeting in Vienna today.
