ADC Introduces LoopStar 700 Next Generation Ethernet Access and Transport Solution at TelecomNEXT
Posted on: Monday, 20 March 2006, 09:00 CST
ADC (NASDAQ:ADCT)(www.adc.com), a leader in communications network infrastructure solutions, today announced the new LoopStar(R) 700 next-generation Ethernet access and transport system. The LoopStar 700 Ethernet product family allows carriers and service providers to cost-effectively aggregate, deploy and manage Ethernet and TDM services for a broad range of customer applications. These products will be exhibited at the TelecomNEXT conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, March 21-22 in ADC booth #1049.
The LoopStar 700 product family provides a complete portfolio of Ethernet multi-service access solutions optimized for whatever type of network facility is available or as the most cost-effective solution for a particular customer application. LoopStar 700 available network interfaces include NxT1/E1, DS3, NxDS3, OC3c/STM1, OC12c/STM4, 100FX, and GigE, as well as drop side (tributary) interfaces of DS1, 10/100 BT, 100FX and GigE. The LoopStar 700 family also provides an industry-leading solution for Pseudo Wire (PWE3) T1/E1/J1 circuit emulation transport, making it economical for business applications or cell site backhaul which require both Ethernet and TDM over a single network service or private network facility.
"As carriers look for ways to offer new revenue-generating services and migrate to IP networks, Ethernet access and transport offers key advantages such as easier scalability and greater bandwidth efficiency for packet-based services," said Mark McDonald, vice president of ADC's Active Infrastructure Business Unit. "The LoopStar 700 is a best-of-breed solution for carriers requiring a highly flexible system that can be used in a broad range of applications."
Several of these applications include Ethernet and TDM business access, cell site backhaul and Mobile Switching Centers (MSC) aggregation, and enterprise private networks.
The LoopStar 700 product family is the result of an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement with Overture Networks Inc., a leading developer of converged packet access platforms. Under terms of the agreement, ADC will market the complete family of Overture Ethernet Access and Transport products under the LoopStar 700 brand on a worldwide basis.
The LoopStar 700 can be deployed in point-to-point, star, and ring configurations, and is compatible with other Ethernet manufacturer solutions as an access terminal multiplexer. All standard Ethernet element features are available in the LoopStar 700 including layer 2 switching, rate-limiting, 802.1p prioritization, 802.1q VLAN switching and stacking, 802.3ad link aggregation and Remote Monitoring (RMON). The LoopStar 700 also provides highly reliable fail-safe protection in the event of a facility failure with its proprietary sub-50 milliseconds automatic Protect Switching Ring (PSR) capability, which is equivalent to SONET-level reliability.
