Malaysian Airline to Cut 28% of Its Work Force BRIEFING: KUALA LUMPUR
March 28, 2006
Malaysian Airline System, Malaysia’s biggest carrier, said Monday that it would cut 6,500 jobs, or 28 percent of its work force, and reduce its fleet after the government gave AirAsia permission to share domestic routes. AirAsia, Southeast Asia’s largest low-fare airline, will also take over service to small towns and rural areas, the government said. “The government has committed to provide financial assistance in order to compensate Malaysian Airline for the cost involved,” Malaysian Airline said.
