San Diego-based BidShift, the leading provider of web-based flexible workforce management technology for healthcare providers, has implemented its online staffing effectiveness system at The University Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, to provide an automated approach for filling open shifts. University is the second Health Alliance of Greater Cincinnati hospital to implement the technology, which provides visibility into open shifts throughout the hospital to help ensure the staffing coverage needed to facilitate and enhance continuity of care to patients. The Christ Hospital in the Health Alliance network was the first in Ohio to implement the Internet-based program in December 2005.
BidShift's innovative software and web-based solution for filling open shifts transforms what traditionally has been a time-consuming and labor-intensive manual process and reduces reliance on expensive external agency staff. Healthcare organizations currently using BidShift across the United States are experiencing substantial payback and annualized cost savings ranging between $400,000 and $3.2 million per hospital. University Hospital is the thirteenth unionized hospital to implement BidShift's workforce management technology.
"BidShift promotes effective staffing by ensuring that all our qualified staff can view and request open shifts, thus allowing us to leverage the use of our existing resources to meet organizational needs," stated Mavis Bechtle, Vice President for Patient Care Services at University Hospital. "In addition, the flexibility of the system allows us to post shifts in accordance with the terms of our collective bargaining agreement."
Nursing staff use the technology to log on from work or home, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to identify available shifts and make on-line requests for shifts that match their skills, experience and lifestyle interests. More than 785 nursing staff have enrolled to participate in the cutting-edge staffing program, and 545 open shifts were filled in the first two weeks of use.
"We are excited to partner with the Health Alliance of Greater Cincinnati as they take a leadership position in the Ohio area to recruit and preserve their workforce while providing a valuable benefit to their employees," said Bruce Springer, President and CEO of BidShift. "BidShift's user-friendly technology is easily implemented and supported to help healthcare enterprises like the Health Alliance better manage their healthcare workforce needs."
BidShift is currently used in more than 75 hospitals across 18 states and the District of Columbia.
