Mar. 31--Think of Canadian singers, and names such as Celine Dion, Shania Twain or Alanis Morissette may come to mind.
But they all had someone to look to as they got their careers going. Anne Murray's musical career has spanned 38 years and 34 albums.
Now she's coming to the Chester Fritz Auditorium in Grand Forks.
"An Evening with Anne Murray" begins at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Fritz. Tickets are $43.50, $35.50 and $29.50. They're available at the Chester Fritz box office and Ticketmaster outlets.
About Murray
Murray, a Springhill, Nova Scotia native, began singing as a child.
She got her first professional gig while she was at the University of New Brunswick in the 1960s, singing at the Curling Club.
It wasn't long before she was pursuing music full time.
Just a few of her hit songs include "Snowbird,""Could I Have This Dance" and "You Needed Me."
She's received four Grammys, three American Music Awards, three Country Music Association Awards, three Canadian Country Music Association Awards and 24 Juno Awards.
Murray also has been honored with the Legacy Award from the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame (2006), the East Coast Music Association Directors' Special Achievement Award (2001). She was inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame in 2002 and into the Juno Hall of Fame in 1993.
Her latest album
The Canadian version of Murray's latest CD, "I'll Be Seeing You," was released in the United States in early 2005 under the title "All of Me." The American version includes two discs.
The first CD contains all the songs from "I'll Be Seeing You," a collection of classics Murray chose from the early 20th century through the mid-1940s. Disc 2 is a collection of some of the most popular songs Murray has recorded over the years.
