Comarco Wireless Test Solutions Launches HSDPA for Seven.Five Drive Test System
Posted on: Wednesday, 5 April 2006, 06:00 CDT
Comarco (NASDAQ:CMRO) Wireless Test Solutions today announces that a new version of the popular Seven.Five Multi-technology Drive Test System is now available with full HSDPA (High Speed Download Packet Access) capabilities. With Optimization, Benchmarking and Scanning modes, Seven.Five for HSDPA is ideal for all phases of wireless telecommunications network testing. The new system is featured at CTIA 2006, April 5-7, in booth #3235 in the Las Vegas Convention Center's Central Hall.
"HSDPA is already being adopted worldwide and will be in wide use by the end of 2006," says Greg Maton, senior vice president and GM for Comarco Wireless Test Solutions. "As has always been the case, Comarco test systems and scanners are ready to evaluate and implement the latest technologies as soon as they go into serious trials. Our new offering can handle everything from RF planning, competitive benchmarking, installation and pre-launch testing, to shakedowns, maintenance and QoS monitoring."
HSDPA is Very Fast
HSDPA is said to be the fastest (up to 14.4 Mbps theoretical maximum speed) downlink technology that is currently available worldwide. It is generally thought to be the next major advance in wireless packet-based data service. By comparison, the current leader for packet-based data service is Ev-DO (Evolution Data Only) technology, with typical downlink speeds of 500 to 700 kbps and theoretical maximum speeds of 2 Mbps. The uplink version of HSDPA, HSUPA (High Speed Uplink Packet Access) service is generally thought to be one to two years in the future but Comarco intends to add this to its portfolio when devices become available.
All Layers of Testing Seven.Five for HSDPA provides information on all layers of testing: Application Layer -- -- QoS measurements on data performance Transmission Layer -- -- SCCH Information -- DPCCH Information -- DSCH Information -- HARQ statistics -- etc Physical Layer -- -- ARFCN -- RxLev -- CPICH -- Ec/No -- etcCurrently supported devices include the Sierra Wireless AC 850 and 860. Several additional devices will soon be supported as well.
Pricing for the Seven.Five option for HSDPA starts at around $15,000. Availability is six to eight weeks from receipt of order.
