Road Conditions: Flooding Forces Closure of Red River Bridge at Drayton

Apr. 5--A major bridge spanning the Red River north of Grand Forks has closed this morning.
The bridge east of Drayton N.D., which connects North Dakota Highway 66 with Minnesota Highway 11, is closed because of flooding over the North Dakota approach, officials said.
The bridge south at Oslo, Minn., remains open, though traffic speeds are reduced dramatically because some water is crossing the road.
Red River bridges to the north, east of Joliette, N.D., and at Pembina, N.D., remain open.
Other road reports:
-- Grand Forks County:
Most roads from the city of Grand Forks south to the Traill County line and about two miles west of the Red River are under water.
Most roads from the city of Grand Forks north to the Walsh County line and east of Interstate 29 are under water.
The Red River bridge east of Thompson, N.D., is closed.
The Point and Sorlie bridges are closed in Grand Forks, but the Kennedy Bridge at Gateway Drive/U.S. Highway 2 is open.
-- Walsh County:
Water was on portions of North Dakota Highway 54 between Interstate 29 and the Red River bridge at Oslo, Minn. Traffic is down to 15 mph; the state Department of Transportation was monitoring the situation.
Walsh County Road 15 from Interstate 29 to Warsaw, N.D., and County Road 4 south of Warsaw is closed.
Many roads east of Interstate 29 have water over them and are closed.
-- Pembina County:
On U.S. Highway 81 between mile posts 216 and 217, north of Glasston to Hamilton, there is water on the road, and traffic speeds are reduced.
North Dakota Highway 44 is closed through Drayton because of diking on the roadway.
The Red River bridges are open.
-- Marshall County:
Minnesota Highway 220 from Alvarado to Robbin, Minn., has extremely hazardous driving conditions because of flooding.
The Oslo bridge was open, but water on the North Dakota side road reduced traffic speeds to 15 mph. The North Dakota Department of Transportation is monitoring the road for possible closure.
-- Norman County:
Minnesota Highway 9 between state Highway 200 to Norman County Road 39 has water on the road surface.
U.S. Highway 75 at Norman County Road 21 has water on the road surface, as does Highway 75 at Norman County Road 51.
-- Polk County:
The Red River bridges west of Crookston (east of Thompson, N.D.,) and west of Climax are closed.
The Point Bridge and Sorlie Bridge in East Grand Forks are closed, but the Kennedy Bridge at U.S. Highway 2 is open.
State Highway 220 at Polk County Road 23 is closed because of water on the road.
U.S. Highway 75 at state Highway 220 is closed to traffic because of flooding.
-- Roseau County:
Minnesota Highway 310 is closed at the Canadian border north of Roseau.
-- Traill County:
The Red River bridges to Climax, Nielsville, Shelly and Hendrum, Minn., are closed.
