FORT WORTH, Texas, April 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- American Airlines has successfully completed the International Air Transport Association's Operation Safety Audit (IOSA) and achieved IOSA Registration.
The IOSA program is an internationally recognized and accepted evaluation system designed to assess an airline's operational management and control systems. IOSA uses internationally recognized quality audit principles, and audits are conducted in a standardized and consistent manner. The program is designed to maximize quality, integrity and security, so that mutually interested airlines and regulators can all comfortably accept IOSA Audit Reports. As a result, the industry will be in a position to achieve the benefits of cost-efficiency through a significant reduction in audit redundancy.
IOSA is the first worldwide operational safety standard specifically designed for the aviation industry. It includes the major aspects of an airline's ability to deliver a safe operation: Corporate Organization & Management System, Flight Operations, Operational Control and Dispatch, Aircraft Engineering and Maintenance, Cabin Operations, Aircraft Ground Handling, Cargo Operations and Operational Security. The IOSA program is recognized around the world as a benchmark for airline operational safety and quality. At present, almost 100 airlines worldwide have entered into the IOSA Registry.
Gerard Arpey, Chairman and CEO of American Airlines, said, "This is a very important step for American. We are glad that we have proven that American has operational safety processes comparable to any of the world's leading airlines, and we welcome the confirmation of our high standard of service. We are also hopeful that our participation in this program will encourage other carriers to do so, raising safety standards throughout the global airline industry."
