The Coalition for Luggage Security Says, Longer Lines: Coming To an Airport Near You!

Posted on: Thursday, 20 April 2006, 15:00 CDT

The Coalition for Luggage Security looks at the short staffing at airport security checkpoints. The Transportation Security Administration has implemented a system that would leave many airports overwhelmed with extensive lines. On March 1, 2006 the TSA began to recruit and hire locally. Due to a screener shortage, some major metro areas such as Orlando and Los Angeles are experiencing the pressure to meet hiring demands. The frustrations are extremely high as the summer holiday approaches. Some local airports do not have the training capacity to employ new screeners and initiate the appropriate background checks. http://www.myrtlebeachonline.com/mld/myrtlebeachonline/business/ 14375423.htm?source=rss&channel=myrtlebeachonline_business (Due to its length, this URL may need to be copied/pasted into your Internet browser's address field. "This is happening in airports across the country: more frustrated passengers needing more screeners. The TSA airports are caught in a downward spiral of too few screeners trying to provide security to more passengers," said Coalition Director Harvey Abelson.

President and Founder of The Coalition for Luggage Security, and CEO of Universal Express (OTCBB:USXP), Mr. Richard A. Altomare said, "Our published proposal would result in fewer bags being brought to airports, thereby limiting additional expenses needed for screening as explained in our white paper. http://www.luggagesecuritycoalition.com/downloads/securitywp.pdf.

The Coalition has promoted an alternative to the airport security we have. If we do not provide the means necessary for expediting travel and providing security, a consequence could become a meltdown of service quality."

"A further example of inexperienced screeners inconveniencing travelers, caused cancelled business meetings, loss of connecting flights, prevention of family reunions as well as the damage of the airline's schedule of cargo and travelers confidence, which occurred yesterday at Atlanta's Hartfield-Jackson Airport," continued Mr. Altomare. http://www.usatoday.com/travel/flights/2006-04-19-atlanta-security- alert_x.htm?csp=34 (Due to its length, this URL may need to be copied/ pasted into your Internet browser's address field. "This overreaction shut down a terminal for two hours, commandeered trains en route to the city and dramatically turned them around. Over 120 flights were delayed or cancelled. This over reactive 'Barney Fife of Mayberry' type of airport seizure has gone on long enough. Americans have had enough. I await responsible and patriotic action on the part of legislators to read our proposal and to minimize these types of unchecked and bureaucratic abuses to the traveling public," concluded Mr. Altomare.
