Posted on: Monday, 1 May 2006, 18:00 CDT

CHICAGO, May 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- United Airlines brings together the exciting Windy City and a Mayan vacation dreamland with new service between Chicago and Cancun, Mexico, beginning July 5. Tickets are on sale now.

United added the new route* to its schedule after being awarded government authority from the U.S. Department of Transportation to provide passenger and cargo service between the two cities. The authority was granted through a competitive proceeding.

"We are committed to providing our customers the best service options between the United States and Mexico," said Greg Taylor, United's senior vice president of Planning. "As part of this commitment, we have launched service on 12 new Mexico leisure routes from our U.S. hubs in just the last two years. United was supported in its bid for the new Chicago-Cancun service by the city of Chicago, the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce and the Mid-America chapter of the United States-Mexico Chamber of Commerce.

Many of United's flights to Mexico offer service on Ted, which features low fares, Economy Plus(R) seating with more legroom, Tedevision, TedSelect SnackBoxes and participation in United's award-winning Mileage Plus(R) program.
