By The Idaho Statesman, Boise
May 7–A team of Meridian middle school students won second place in a statewide science and engineering contest.
The Kung Fu Koalas, a team of Lowell Scott Middle School students, earned the honor in the finals of the Idaho TEACH: Mars Rover Challenge on April 29 at the University of Idaho.
The students had to use LEGOs to build a rover that could maneuver between obstacles, climb steep hills and pick up small objects. More than 700 students competed in the competition.
